It is used to treat migraines with or without aura (is a strange feeling or visual disturbance that warns you of an attack) and also helps to relieve headache, pain and reduces sensitivity to light or sound. It reacts with a natural substance in the brain named as serotonin which causes narrowing and reduces swelling of blood vessels which results in relieve of pain in the brain. Rizatriptan also reduces substances in the body that can aggravate headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. Maxalt also used to treat a tension headache, a headache that causes loss of movement on one side of body, or any headache that seems to be different from usual migraine headaches.
Some chemicals in the brain increases the activity, as a result parts of the brain then send confused signals which result in the symptoms of migraine. Many migraine attacks occur without any reason, but for some people migraine attacks can trigger due certain factors, like some foods or drinks items.
Rizatriptan belongs to a class of medicines known as 5HT1-receptor agonists and known as Triptans which are work by stimulating the receptors of a natural substance in the brain called serotonin (or 5HT).
- 5 – 10 mg.
- Should be taken without food.
- Sudden and severe stomach pain and bloody diarrhea.
- Numbness in your feet and hands.
- Slurred speech
- Blurred vision.
- Nausea, Vomiting or diarrhea.
Pregnancy/ Breast- Feeding:
- Not known, consult with doctor before use.
- Patients with heart problems, seizures, liver disease or any allergy.
- Trouble breathing.
- Store at room temperature away from light and moisture.
Avoid certain foods, beverages, or food additives like red wine, cheese, and chocolate and also avoid certain lifestyle patterns such as irregular eating/sleeping habits or stress, may help to lessen migraine attacks.
